The Martial Artist’s Creed:

Adaptability, Respect, and the Foundation of Quest Phase One

A good martial artist should be able to adapt to his environment. As that environment changes, we should be able to change too. This core belief forms the very heart of everything we do. As we launch Quest Martial Arts, we are beginning this journey together in Phase One.

Whether you are stepping onto the floor for the first time or returning to training, here is a detailed look at what to expect, how we train, and what Phase One is all about.

1. Respecting the Training Hall & Environment

Our journey begins the moment you walk through the doors. Because we want to show deep respect to our training hall, our instructors, and each other, students will learn traditional martial arts etiquette. You will practice how to bow properly right as you enter and exit the building, as well as when you step onto and off the training floor.

2. Dress Code: Why We Start Without Uniforms

In Phase One, formal uniforms take a backseat. We believe in starting and ending our journey at Quest Martial Arts exactly how we do in life—without a uniform. For now, all you need to wear are comfortable workout clothes that allow you to move freely.

Our training will evolve over time. In future phases, we will introduce soft mats, remove our shoes, and take our skills to the ground to learn jujitsu. However, that is further down the road.

3. The Rules of the Hardwood Floor (Mat Shoes)

Right now, we are training on a hardwood floor. This specific environment requires all students to wear shoes for safety, support, and traction. Any standard athletic shoe is perfectly okay to start with, but certain styles work better than others:

  • Great Everyday Choices: Standard running shoes or cross-trainers tend to be the best normal athletic shoes to kickbox and train in.

  • Specialty Options: If you prefer specialized martial arts footwear, wrestling, Tae Kwon Do, or Savate shoes are excellent choices.

The Golden Rule: Ultimately, you must pick a pair of shoes to be your dedicated "mat shoes." This means you never walk outside on the street or parking lot in your mat shoes. They are clean shoes worn only on the training floor.

4. The Curriculum: Your Stand-Up Foundation

Phase One focuses entirely on your stand-up striking and coordination. Everything else we teach in the future is built directly on this foundation.

Our curriculum is highly blended, drawing from several prestigious systems to give you a well-rounded skillset:

  • The Striking Core: A complete system of boxing and kickboxing. Our kickboxing blends powerful elements from Muay Thai, French Savate, Bruce Lee’s martial arts, and Filipino martial arts.

  • Weapons Integration: Filipino Kali, focusing heavily on training with single and double sticks to build coordination, reflexes, and spatial awareness.

  • Mechanics & Tradition: We incorporate Olympic Tae Kwon Do footwork and kicking. This advanced footwork helps you understand body mechanics deeply while building a bridge to traditional martial arts later on.

5. Equipment Guidelines & Policy

We want to ensure every student has access to safe, high-quality gear without breaking the bank. To keep training accessible, we maintain a flexible equipment policy:

  • Exclusive Low-Cost Options: I provide budget-friendly equipment options exclusively for my students to help you get started easily.

  • No Obligation to Buy From Quest: You are never limited or obligated to purchase your gear through the school. You are entirely free to source your own equipment from any outside retailer you choose.

  • Prior Approval Needed: If you decide to buy your equipment elsewhere, it must be approved by Quest ahead of time. This is a safety requirement to ensure the gear is appropriate and safe for partner training.

6. It’s Not Just What You Train—It’s How You Train

What you train is important, but more important is how you train. If you know how to train well, you can train in anything. This deep focus on training methodology, adaptability, and fluid understanding is a proud hallmark of the Inosanto lineage. It is a mindset you will learn from day one at Quest.

This knowledge is something you will take with you everywhere you go in life, completely regardless of what you are wearing. Your journey at Quest will change over time, but we start right here: with clean shoes, comfortable workout clothes, and hard work on a hardwood floor.

See you there!
